Thursday morning just as the sun is rising in the horizon, the dark clouds filled the sky as the weather turned colder with a slight wind. The conditions for the start of the open shooting dog championship seemed great for potential bird work.

The shooting dog Championship judges were Colvin and Mazie Davis of Minter, Alabama. Both are well qualified judges, field trialiers and have trained many outstanding bird dogs.

Why Not John, handled by Jerry Lewis, points to indicate a chukar. A bird was flushed and Jerry fired his blank gun while the setter maintained its intensity.

Both Colvin and Mazie watch as Why Not John points. The setter is barely seen just left of Colvin.
